When you need a stopper knot larger than an overhand knot, the decorative blood knot is ideal.
Make an overhand loop. Pass the bitter end under and up through the loop once and then again as shown in A. Slowly draw the ends tight, gently lifting the left loop over the right as tightening progresses. B. shows the knot’s front, and C. its back.
