Preventing small-vessel attacks
Help keep America safe
During his keynote address at the USPS Governing Board meeting on 12 Sept., U.S. Coast Guard Capt. Mark Rizzo urged USPS members to promote the America’s Waterway Watch program to the boating public.
By reporting suspicious activity to the National Response Center at 877-24-WATCH, Capt. Rizzo said recreational boaters can help reduce the threat from small-vessel attacks, a primary concern in the fight against terrorism.
“The USS Cole and Mumbai attacks are a stark reminder of the damage a terrorist can inflict with a 20-foot boat,” Rizzo told the crowd.
Rizzo urged USPS members to promote the America’s Waterway Watch program during boating safety courses, boat shows, vessel safety checks and whenever they encounter other boaters.
