Workshop teaches Co-op Charting skills
The 2009 NOAA-USPS Cooperative Charting workshop will be held at the Atlantic Marine Center in Norfolk, Va., from 1 to 2 May. Participants can choose from two tracks: The first emphasizes non-technical Cooperative Charting activities, while the second emphasizes depth surveys.
Both tracks also cover planning, data gathering requirements, data collection and report submission using CCWeb, the Cooperative Charting website.
The non-technical track covers traditional Cooperative Charting activities including small-craft facility updates as well as updates to Coast Pilot books, nautical charts and small-craft charts. The workshop emphasizes the ease of entering reports into CCWeb.
The second track provides more dedicated, hands-on experience using DepthWiz and entering data into CCWeb. The DepthWiz track includes planning a route, running the route in a boat (weather permitting), recording the data and preparing the data for submission using CCWeb.
Participants will meet on Friday evening at the Governor Dinwiddie Hotel in Portsmouth for an informal welcome reception. On Saturday, coffee and donuts will be provided at the Atlantic Marine Center. The workshop closes on Saturday evening with a dinner at the hotel featuring a guest speaker. You can register for the workshop using this form.
Through Cooperative Charting, USPS members can make a difference in the safety of all recreational boaters.
